Transformational Leadership Training

Start a Campaign

At Africa Renewal, we know that transformed people transform society. If we hope to achieve our mission “to renew Africa through the gospel of Jesus Christ and the local church by embracing children, equipping leaders, and empowering communities,” then the next generation of Christian leaders must be an important focus in our ministry. TLT is a connection point between all three of these ministry pillars.

Students who were embraced as children are equipped as leaders. As God’s calling and purpose for their lives is put into laser focus, this clarity allows them to empower their communities.

As high school graduates come to the culmination of their time in our Child Development Program, select student leaders are eligible to participate in our 3-month intensive training that takes place in the gap between secondary school and university. TLT prepares students to leave the child sponsorship program behind and equips them for whatever lies ahead. Whether they continue to higher education, employment, or anything else, TLT helps students identify the ways that God has uniquely gifted them to live with purpose as transformed leaders.

What is TLT?

Bootcamp Phase

The first phase of TLT challenges students mentally and physically. This bootcamp teaches resilience, team building, critical thinking, and resourcefulness while also serving as a backdrop for inner transformation. The bootcamp is done in the “bush,” teaching students to rely on one another as a team and on the Lord for strength. This training is difficult and very demanding, but as students are pushed to their limits, with weakness and brokenness exposed, God brings healing to their places of deep wounds.

Spiritual Discipline & Leadership Development Phases

The next phase focuses on spiritual growth. In this phase, sometimes students who grew up in our discipleship programs suddenly realize that their relationship with God was superficial. We get to celebrate when they recommit or give their lives to Christ for the first time! Students practice prayer and fasting, study the Bible, learn about their spiritual gifts, and discern God’s calling on their lives. This internal, spiritual work prepares them to participate in external, missional work.

They then spend time in service to others, sharing the Gospel, and connecting with other young people. They meet practical needs and develop skills by taking on projects that serve the community. This process helps students develop interpersonal competence, practice servant leadership, discern what abilities align with their aspirations, and learn income-generating skills.

Final Integration Phase

The last phase brings all the pieces together. Students hear speakers address discipleship, career, leadership, relationships, and managing finances well. The training concludes with a graduation ceremony. Students share how TLT impacted their lives and are commissioned to be transformational Christian leaders in their communities. Our alumni remain in contact, continuing to serve and encourage each other long after TLT has finished.

The cost to run this program is $800 per student, with 100-150 attendees every year. Only students who complete TLT are qualified for university-level sponsorship through our Next Generation Leadership Program. Whether students become doctors, lawyers, seamstresses, or mechanics, each vocation and skill is a God-given gift that will be used to serve others and make disciples. This is how Christ-like people will renew Uganda and the world by placing people of influence in every sector of society.
